When given the
challenge of cutting a solid billet of 718 Inconel alloy or a Datsun
pickup in half, HE&M Saw’s largest production saw, the 80” X
80” Double Column saw, can do both equally well.
Schultz Steel Co. of South Gate, California recently took
delivery of the 80 inch “monster”. The saw features include a powered feed table and vertical
and horizontal blade guides. This
allows the saw to be used for vertical or horizontal sawing.
Before
the saw was delivered, Schultz wanted to do some testing.
They sent 718 Inconel and A286 billets off the HE&M Saw.
Dick Payne, who supervised the testing for Schultz Steel,
described the tests as “very satisfactory”.
After
painting and the final inspection, HE&M Saw put the saw to the
ultimate test . . . cutting a Datsun pickup in half.
It was no contest. The
results can be seen (right and bottom right photos).
The owner of the pickup (a HE&M Saw employee) now has two
pieces of junk instead of one.

Not exactly pastrami or pepperoni!
